Reimbursement for Free/Reduced Price School Meals
Find Out How to Apply
Registration is now open for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s P-EBT program (Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer) for the 2020-2021 school year. P-EBT reimburses families whose children qualify for free/reduced price meals, but did not receive the meals when schools moved to remote/hybrid learning due to Covid-19.
You can apply for P-EBT reimbursement if:
You are a family with school-aged children who are already registered for your schools’ free/reduced meals program.
You are a family with school-aged children who are newly eligible for your schools’ free/reduced meals program due to changed circumstances in the homes.
If you qualify, your P-EBT reimbursement will be issued on a card. P-EBT cards initially will be loaded with reimbursement funds for meals missed from the beginning of the 2020 school year (Aug/Sept 2020) to December 2020, and will be periodically reloaded until after the school year ends in May/June 2021. Families that receive a P-EBT card need to keep it so they can access the funds as they are deposited.
The Northern Illinois Food Bank (NIFB) has created an easy flow chart for the families to see if they qualify and what their next step should be. There is also an FAQ sheet that provides more details about the program in an understandable format. Click on the images below to view/print the flyers.
